Set far in the future when mankind has spread throughout the galaxy, colonising moons and distant planets. Tyler Jones along with his red-haired co-pilot Katriona MacRae, are space couriers scraping a living transporting foodstuffs between agri-planets and space stations in their aging ship. Disaster strikes when they lose their regular contract and, becoming desperate, they take on no-questions-asked work delivering mystery cargo to an alien planet populated by large reptilian creatures which have the ability to communicate telepathically.During turbulence the cargo casing aboard Tyler’s ship is damaged and Tyler and Katriona discover they are in fact transporting human children, who are marked as slaves with a red circle tattooed on their faces. Though slavery is technically legal on the children’s planet they struggle with their consciences and try to find a way out, however Kat’s family is threatened so they continue with the work.A gangster, Jackamo, with links to the slave trade is meanwhile taking children hostage to extort money and control their parents. He aims to brainwash the children to be utterly loyal to him. Aliona, one of the hostage children is being trained in languages. He takes her to the space station he is in the process of taking over but she manages to escape and stows away on Tyler’s ship.Aliona wakes one of the children being carried in a stasis pod as she recognises a fellow hostage Jackamo has tired of. Tyler and Katriona discover their stowaways and care for them. Arriving at the alien planet Tyler is horrified to discover that humans are being farmed and are not simply slaves as they thought, but are being eaten as a delicacy. There is a hearing where Tyler and Katriona have to prove that humans are an intelligent species by being able to use telepathy, Tyler manages this and they are released. Before they can leave the docking area an alien Tyler insulted tries to take revenge by killing the two children on board, Kat steps in and fights him. The aliens return most of the children in stasis, and Tyler and Katriona take them home.
